Education is one of the core foundations of LBPSA. For our high school students, college preparation will be available making sure students are prepared for college providing college seminars which include admissions requirements, scholarships, financial resources, offering college tours and/or college fairs and more.
Another core foundation of LBPSA is Health and Wellness where we will provide a safe haven for youth and young adults to feel safe not bullied; feel empowered not discouraged; feel strong not fragile; feel hope not despair. They will have access to various resources focusing on the mind, body, and soul.
Sports can teach players leadership, sportsmanship, and tenacity. LBPSA will help youth and young adults to develop these characteristics and more.
Whether players want to play on a travel team, at school, in college or professionally, LBPSA is committed to helping players to the next level, if desire.
Greetings, I am Dr. Sherrell Raglin, a graduate from California State University Long Beach in Long Beach, California where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Black Studies in 2000; decided to go back to college to earn my Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Phoenix in 2010.
As a single mother of two beautiful daughters and a recipient of government assistance, I knew I had to work hard and sacrifice greatly to achieve my goals. For me, prosperity is the key to success, that is, the prosperity of helping others achieve their goals. Prosperity is not only defined by an individual’s economic status but the fulfillment of accomplishing one’s vision, purpose and passion. Therefore, I decided to further my education, and completed my post-graduate degree program, Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.
I started my basketball journey in the fourth grade. From there, the love affair between me and basketball began. I tried out for basketball on a collegiate level, and in 2004, I tried out for the WNBA (Los Angeles Sparks). I did not get the opportunity to play basketball on any levels listed above, but I did get the opportunity to play basketball in Beijing, China. Basketball will always be a passion of mine. There are many people who might say they wish they could've, should've. I can actually say I did. Lastly, I had the opportunity to coach youth summer basketball, coach FROSH basketball and assist the Varsity basketball team from Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, California.
Besides basketball, I'm an advocate of higher education. I worked in higher education 20 plus years with experiences as a college tour guide, teacher's aide, high school college counselor, college recruiter, financial aid and admissions professional, and educational consultant.
In 2012, I envisioned starting an organization that would service youth and young adults in underserve communities. I would focus on education, health & wellness, and my love of basketball (and other sports too). It's 2021, and my vision is becoming a reality. I am so excited. I pray you all come along for the ride.
I leave you with one of my favorite scriptures:
1 Peter 2: 9-10, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
My support team consists of my family, my church, coaches, educators and my young ball players and their parents.
You never know your potential unless you try.
